How I think about the Bible?
The best way I have found to answer the question of what is the Bible? is this:
The Bible is a library of ancient Near Eastern literary works.
The Bible and libraries share a lot in common. For example:
In a library you will find many different kinds of literature which is also true for the Bible. There are many different things to be learned and much information to be discovered in each of the books of the Bible, just as in any given book in a library.
Just like in any library, the Bible contains many works from different authors spanning a vast amount of time. Each book within a library was written at a different time in different cultures, the same can be said about the books within the Bible
The bible is not only a hand held library of ancient Near Eastern literature, it is much much more.
